6 Days in Porto & Lisboa, Portugal - April 2023

Updated: Jul 7, 2023

Once again I tagged another European city to visit after my Milan Design Week trip. Honestly after one week in Milan my body was shattered and did not want to do much more exploring so this is just another photo dump opportunity on restaurants.

For me Porto was a much more beautiful city then Lisboa, and with then live music all around the city Porto is truly one of the most romantic cities I have visited. Overall Portugal is cheaper than the rest of Europe but do look out for national holidays as you do see the prices peaks on those days.

Transportation

There are a LOT of hills so if you can't walk there just take an Uber. Uber is about half the price of the rest of Europe. Alternative in Lisboa you can try out the trams, which were constantly packed when I was there.

Note that there is a fast and slow train between Porto and Lisboa. I strongly recommend you to reserve in advance for the fast train as the hardware was newer. My journey back from Porto to Lisboa on the slow train was a bit stuffy.

Porto

Accommodation

I stayed at the Se Catedral Hotel Porto, Tapestry Collection by Hilton which is right at the top of the mountain. Location was perfect and not too busy and it over looks the cathedral. Disappointed that they did not have any compliment toiletry being a Hilton though.

Restaurants

Porto is all about Seafood and Meat. You can't really go wrong with Google's rating. Here is just some of the places we/I went to. It was amazing to have meet some great people at some of the restaurants as well.

Ostras & Coisas (Poor Kitchen Service)

Metro & Meio (Recommended: Suckling Pig)

Restaurante Cana Verde (Recommended: Sardine)

ALIBI by YoursPorto

Biferia

Mercado Beira-Rio (Recommended: Food Court)

Attractions

I was honestly so lazy that I took a Tuk Tuk guided tour and I do not remember what I saw....

However I do recommend doing it as it gives you a guide overview on the city layout along with the Port Wine Tour with the Fado performance.

On my own I also visited the most beautiful book store (Livraria Lello) and Mcdonalds in the world.

Lisboa

Accommodation

Being the capital of Portugal, Lisboa is understandably more diverse and rundown. I have opted for the Lisbon Wine Hotel which is conveniently located but on a time restricted pedestrian road. Where Porto being a romantic city, Lisboa is definitely more of a party town.

Restaurants

In Lisboa you will have no problem finding decent restaurants:

Boa-Bao

Time Out Market Lisboa

Taverna Alfacinha

Taberna Moderna

Feitoria (Recommended)

This restaurant deserve a special mention. Located in Altis Belém Hotel & Spa, the Michelin-starred Feitoria Restaurant, aims to provide experiences that go far beyond dinner. With a signature cuisine and a vision focused on the origin of the product, the whole experience at Feitoria is about the product with a great respect for the producers.

Attractions

These are mostly famous touristy stuff...

Nightlife

There are plenty of things to do and people tend to start quite late. Below are some options but honestly can't remember most of it:

Blacksheep Wine Bar

Barrio Alto

Pink Street
