2 Days in Guangzhou, China - Dec 2024

With the highspeed rail connecting Hong Kong and China, exploring China has never been easier. Just over an hour by train, Gunagzhou is an ideal weekend destination for a breath of fresh air and some fantastic food.

Transport

You can easily take a highspeed rail from HK to GZ and you can get there in 1.5hr max. GZ is a relatively big so do make sure you do your research. Didi (China's Uber) is readily availble in the city.

Accommodation

I am not a big fan of international big names and whilst in China I really wanted to stay in buildings that's a bit more interesting. THERA Space is situated in the west side of the city centre in the Old South Sea Community. This well preserved brick stone Villa, including large windows on the ground floor truly makes this a unique stay in GZ. Each room is highly stylised with their own concept so because on which room you are actually booking.

Attractions

Guangzhou is an expansive city but everything is relatively easy to get to by Didi. As I was only here for 2 days including work, I only get to see a fraction of the city. It's also good to know GZ is also famous for their mountain region for a more nature city break.

Guangzhou Tower 廣州塔

People's Park 人民公園

大佛寺 Temple -普覺樓

Beijing Road Walking Street 北京路步行街 (High Street)

新河浦歷史文化區 Cultural District (Cafe and Bars and Intersting Shops)

Restaurants and Bars

You will not run out of options in GZ but the price points do varies.

ChaoFa Beef Hotpot 朝發潮汕牛肉店

Citywide famous chain for their freshly butched beef. It is amazing but their maybe a quite for the weekends.

業記

I didn't get a chance to eat here but this place is next to our hotel. Seems like a fantastic place for breakfasy and they are famous for their freshly made hand pulled rice paper rolls.

The Roof Bar @ Park Hyatt

One of the best roof top bars in Guangzhou with a fantastic view of the city and Guangzhou Tower. Note that the cocktails takes ages so maybe stick with the wines.

成隆行

Famous restautrant all over China specialised in Hairy Crab. I think it was a bit too expesnive. In the future I think you can just order the Xiao Long Boa and the Rice Dish. The Crab was good but whilst in China its better to have it prepared for you.

DSK Cocktail Club

Constanly full and reservation is well recommended. One of the most popular cocktail bar in Guangzhou. Owned by the same people at Hope and Sesame.

炳胜品味(海印总店)

An established restaurant in GZ. Most of their dishes are fantastic and amazing value. They have multiple stores in GZ.
